Brass and Copper Sink Colors explained.

Choosing a color can be hard, so let me explain the color differences.

Shiny (Polished) Brass - Brass that is polished so it has a mirror like finish. Other colors in the room will be reflected in the finish. This color can tarnish and will require cleaning and polishing depending on use.

Matte (Brushed) Brass - Matte brass is the polished finish that is buffed to remove the polished mirrored finish and leaves it with a slightly brushed look. Matte can not be polished back to shiny and will darking or weather with use. Clean with "Barkeeper's Friend" and a scotchbrite pad to further matte the finish and remove tarnish. This will need to be waxed to maintain the Matte finish.

Rustic (Weathered) Brass - Our rustic finish goes through many stages to get to the weathered antique finish. I consider this the most forgiving of all finishes as if used and left to tarnish on it's own will only take on a richer unique color pallet.  Clean with Mild soap and water. Barkeeper's Friend will lighten the finish and the use of a Scotchbrite pad will lighten it more and give it a more matte look. This sink color is ever changing.

Dark (Antique) Copper - Dark copper is by far the most popular color in our copper sinks. This color is a tarnish that is done by our artisans in Mexico and can be likened to a dark chocolate, oil rubbed bronze finish. All copper colors are considered a living finish and will change with use. Acidic foods can lighten the finish, however cleaing with mild soap and water (I use Dawn) and rinse (do not air dry), the finish will oxidize and darken naturally.  Depending on the amount of use, some may never change and others could change with every use. Air and water oxidation is your natural darkener.

Burnished (Duo-Tone) Copper - This finish is our dark copper that has been burnished to bring out the raw copper highlights in the finish while the dark color shows in the hammer indentations. Mild soap and water for cleaning. A Scotchbrite pad used lightly on the surface can bring the highlights back out in the finish. Waxing can delay the tarnish or color changes that come with use.

Natural Copper - Natural copper finish is a range of dull or dirty penney colors. There can be variatons in the color range as natural copper naturally does. This is also a living finish and will change with use. This color will not change to the Dark finish, but can darking in the penney range of colors.  Clean with mild soap and water and dry, use wax to protect the finish if you choose.

Shiny Copper - Copper that is polished so it has a mirror like finish. Other colors in the room will be reflected in the finish. This color can tarnish and will require cleaning and polishing depending on use.

Matte Copper - Matte copper is the polished finish that is buffed to remove the polished mirrored finish and leaves it with a slightly brushed look. Matte can not be polished back to shiny and will darking or weather with use. Clean with "Barkeeper's Friend" and a scotchbrite pad to further matte the finish and remove tarnish. This will need to be waxed to maintain the Matte finish.
